Cacciucco, the "C5"

This is not a place but it is still an institution
Yes, Livorno even has some “not to be missed" culinary traditions... I know Italians who will do the long haul out to the coast just to eat a plate of authentic cacciucco (the C5 stands for the 5 letter Cs in the word cacciucco - the only Italian word to have 5 letter c's).

If, while wandering around the streets of Livorno, you come across a shop sign that says "Pizza e Torta", stop and go in, and try Livorno's famous Torta di Ceci (a kind of savoury pancake made from chickpea flour). In tasting this delicious local delicacy you will also be gaining an insight into the essence of Livorno, where simple and genuine things - like Torta di Ceci - are what counts.

Livorno's Synagogue

The synagogue of Livorno is located not far from Piazza Grande, in the pentagonal city of Buontalenti, in the large Benamozegh square. It was built following the design of the architect Angelo Di Castro and completed in 1962 on the site of the ancient synagogue, partially destroyed during the last world war. It is with Rome, Trieste and Genoa, one of the only four great synagogues of the twentieth century in Italy and the only one to be built in the period following the Second World War.

Montenero's Funicular

To satisfy the demand for transport between the base of the hill and the summit, a funicular was built from the beginning of the century. The presentation of the "funicular tramway" project by the Livornese Society of Electric Traction and the inauguration of the plant, , which was then supplemented by a tram line connecting the funicular to the city center, dates back to June 1907.
